Nantwich

Today's Canal - Shropshire Union

With Mike in Cornwall and then on his way back, Christine will be along some time to complete the story of how they travelled from Grindley Brook to Nantwich. Fortunately they were able to secure a mooring on the aqueduct embankment where Mike was expecting to find them.

After a successful meeting in Truro he headed for the station for an even longer trip back to the boat. He had a five-train schedule and all went well for the first two segments to Bristol Temple Meads. However, the next train was very late arriving and had one of the three coaches out of action. The platform was very full and it took around 12 minutes to push everyone into the space available.

As a result he missed the connection at Newport but, luck was in as there was a direct train to Nantwich only a short while after he arrived - just enough time to pick up a cup of coffee from the station coffee shop which was still open. In the end he arrived only 25 minutes later than originally expected. It is a 20 minute walk from Nantwich station through the town to the canal. Fortunnately the rain had by now ceased  - despite a threat to return at about half way - he made it back to the boat in the dry.
