Another overcast, hot, humid and 'close' day. Middle of the day there were a couple of light and brief showers but everything was so hot that the rain evaporated almost immediately, contributing to the humidity but not the water levels.
Christine was in need of a box of tissues (the spare box seems to have been already plundered!) but she heard last night from the boaters from the marina that she could probably pick up a box there. So, first task today was for her to walk around (we were next door to the marina). She was in luck but the usual time spent chatting meant that it was getting close to 11 before we set off.
As we untied, a boat came out of the marina and followed until we stopped to moor at Stoke Golding. Most of the time we were just a little faster than them but they did not seem to slow down very much when passing moored boats so at those points they caught up a bit, only to fall back again.
Occasional bright spells - yes, almost the only landmarks today were the bridges. Around 14 of them in quite a short distance.
.
Rather more boats out today - it is a weekend - and this was about the only hire boat we encountered, from the hire base at Stoke Golding. Here they are passing over Shenton Aqueduct, crossing a country lane that leads up to Shenton Station, the southern limit of the Battlefield Line. Again we saw nothing moving on the railway.
It was not quite lunch time when we passed Sutton Wharf and we felt it too early in the day to indulge again from the ice cream boat. We were tempted but managed to resist.
This short boat has its own personalised - it just fits - mooring. When we passed here in 2013, our photo of Dadlington Wharf it called itself, showed a rather decrepit site but it is now much tidier.
Shortly after 1 o'clock we reached the Visitor Moorings at Stoke Golding. As they are on the off side, but before tying up we checked that we could walk to the village on the road that is alongside. At least we could again moor almost touching the bank!
No need to move on this afternoon - which disappeared rather quickly! Mike did manage to take a look at the sliding hatch over the back doors. It has not been opening fully, which is rather tedious when getting in or out. Although he managed to clear quite a bit of gunge from the slider it still is catching on something. he failed to find out how to remove the hatch itself so that is a task for another day, once we can c all on some expert advice! Two people have already had a go at it (the boat painters and Black Swan at Cropredy) so it is not going to be a quick fix - probably.
