Going Nowhere

We moored by the Flint Mill last night so that we could go to the village church this morning. We went there five years ago (see) but they now have a new vicar - his first post training. However the service time this week was not until 11 so we had a slow start.

The forecast was for solid rain most of the day, even if the forecast kept changing the detail. It was only light drizzle as we had breakfast but just as we were setting off someone turned up the heavenly tap and it was definitely wet

About 15 minutes to the church but up a rather steep hill (alas, if you read that 2018 blog you will see that then it took 10 minutes - so are we slowing down or was it just the rain?)

The size of the congregation was perhaps a few more than last time but not by much. With COVID intervening, that is not bad as many churches have still not yet recovered the lost time. The service was a straightforward Common Worship communion and the sermon very well constructed, detailed and with plenty of literary references. What else from an Oxford PhD (music history) and a theological training at Mirfield and Cuddesdon?

It was still raining as we walked back down the hill and as we agreed that we would not attempt to move today. We had a slightly disturbed sleep last night so it was a good opportunity to catch up!

The rain unexpectedly cleared away late afternoon  but it was not worth trying to move. Mike has a Zoom meeting at 11 tomorrow and so we hope that the mobile signal here stays with us - it behaved for Christine on Friday but has been a bit iffy during today.

Also it is roast dinner day and Christine has provided a tray of blackberries she picked last night to be turned into some form of dessert. The main course is also experimental as we are using a couple of chicken parcels (chicken, wrapped in bacon, with sausagemeat centre) that we bought from the Marple butcher (that does not do pork pies any longer)/ Buy we seem to have lost the swede that we thought we had bought in Asda of the samr town.
