Today's Canal - Kennet and Avon

Only a short trip today as we are re-positioning ourselves ready for Mike to catch a bus in the morning in order to move the car nearer to us.

It was a glorious day with almost cloudless skies. Initially there was quite a cooling breeze but the temperature rose through into the afternoon.

No locks today but a couple of swing bridges. The first one, at Allington, carries only a footpath and was rebuilt narrow (hence easier to move) although the stonework still remains and shows that it was originally a farm accommodation bridge and wide enough for carts to pass over.

Our maps indicate that the next swing bridge is normally open - not much chance of anything else as it stands (only just).

As we neared the road bridge that is closest to tomorrow's bus route, we spotted what looked like a possible mooring spot where previous users had trodden down the worst of the undergrowth. Christine scouted ahead but found nothing better, perhaps just a minute or so closer to the road, so we stayed where we were. It is some time that we have been this close to the bank at both ends, but still not needing fenders.

4.0 Miles - 0 Locks
