Aston Marina

Today's Canal - Trent and Mersey

It was generally a fine day although we had a brief and light shower as we worked through the first two locks this morning. Otherwise dry, sometimes breezy and a few sunny spells.

We were in no hurry to cast off today as we did not have far to go to the marina. In the pound below thew first lock there were perhaps as many as a dozen former working boats moored up. We have still to discover what the upcoming event is.

We then passed the former Joules Ales brewery, now home to some light industrial activities.

After the centre of Stone, with all the mooring spaces still fully occupied, we descended the final two Stone locks.

We then had about a mile and a half (retracing the route Mike walked last night!) down to Aston Lock. Fortunately, a boat arriving below just as we were emptying meant that we did not have to close up afterwards.

Immediately below the lock we turned into Aston Marina and quickly found our allocated mooring - fortunately we already knew where we were to be as at that time there was no-one in the office! Before lunch, Mike completed a few more bits of painting and varnishing.

After lunch we drove into Stafford to pickup train tickets we had already booked on-line but it will save time tomorrow. We also found out about parking, which does seem to be rather popular, with a multi storey next to the station.

Earlier we had discovered that a second leak in our longer hose pipe had developed and more seemed to be leaking out than going into the tank. So, before leaving Stafford we called at B&Q to pick up a replacement. We were pleased that they stocked the better XHose which is the same as our other, more used, hosepipe.

2.5 Miles - 5 Locks
